Kidney stones are a common disease in our country. Kidney stones, which have disturbed people since ancient times, have increased dramatically for the last 20 years. The reason for this is thought to be due to feeding habits and low liquid intake.
In recent years, the introduction of endoscopic treatment methods in the treatment of kidney stones provides immediate intervention to the stones in the kidney and urine channels. In this way, the patient may not be exposed to a painful treatment or the painful treatment process in open surgery. With the addition of laser treatment to endoscopic methods, kidney stones and urinary tract stones can be easily treated.
Causes of kidney stones
If insufficient fluid intake and sufficient fluid are not consumed, the concentration of chemicals that cause stone formation in the urine increases and the risk of stone formation increases. Therefore, there is a greater risk of stone formation in people living in the cattle.
Hereditary Causes: People with a previous family history of kidney stones have a greater risk of developing kidney stones. Again, people with kidney stones again in front of the stone formation is very high in 5 years.
Age Gender and Race: Kidney stone disease, which is more common in males and white breeds, occurs between 30 and 50 years of age.
Diet High risk of creating stones that consume animal protein and foods containing low fiber increases the risk. Excess salt consumption is also very dangerous.
In addition to the causes of kidney stones mentioned above, immobilization also increases the risk of stone formation.
Treatment of kidney stones
There are 2 methods commonly used in the treatment of kidney stones. These are:
1) ESWL is a method of breaking the stones in the urinary tract and kidney by shock waves sent from outside the body. Treatment may require one or more sessions. It is a method where patients can go out of their daycare and continue their treatment. It is difficult to see in cases where the stone is in the canal. Similarly, it is not preferred to use stone for big stones because 3-4 pieces cannot be used for cleaning. There is a certain amount of kidney cell (nephron) loss in every stone breaking session in the kidney, which is a reason to limit the stone breaking sessions to 3 – 4.
2) Endoscopic ureter stone treatment: When the ESWL method cannot be applied or not effective in the stones in the kidney and urine channel, it is a method in which the stones are destroyed by laser technology or they are taken into small pieces by means of hard or soft instruments. It is the most commonly used method in emergency cases, in which the urinary tract is completely closed and the drug cannot be painful.
Since there is no incision in the operation under general anesthesia, patients can easily do their daily work. As the stone is completely eliminated, patients do not have pain.
3) Mini-Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PNL): It is a method that can not be broken by ESWL method and it is taken out of stones by breaking a small hole with endoscopic instruments externally to the kidney in large stones. This method is an operation performed under general anesthesia used in very large stones. Patients should stay in the hospital for 1-3 days. After discharge, patients are able to perform their daily activities very easily. This operation is performed through a hole in the kidney localization at the back of the body until the index of the index finger. If the incision is too small, it helps to reduce the post-operative pain and to make the healing much faster.
